Why Punta Gorda:  A Historic Hidden Treasure of Florida

Named one of the “10 greatest places to sail in the United States”

Often described as quaint, leisurely and laid back, Punta Gorda, FL offers the best of scenic waterfront vistas and the boating way of life. The area has been featured in SAIL magazine’s list of the “10 Greatest Places to Sail in the United States,” ranked by Golf Digest as the “Third Best Place to Live and Play Golf in America,” rated by MONEY magazine as one of the “Best Places to Live in the South,” and selected as a “top retirement destination” by Where To Retire

Punta Gorda is a vibrant center for restaurants, boutiques and commerce. The tangible old-Florida atmosphere is emphasized by the streets lined with huge royal palms, beautifully restored period homes with wide verandas, brick lanes, street lights and benches. Nearly every weekend draws some type of festival or entertainment event, in addition to farmers markets on Saturdays and Sundays.

Arts and Culture

For history and art lovers, the city’s heritage is
depicted with murals decorating the city. As

tranquil Peace River setting surrounded by
flora and fauna indigenous to our area.

One of Florida’s most breathtaking garden parks, Punta
Gorda’s new Peace River Botanical & Sculpture Gardens,
features diverse botanicals and artistic beauty.  Shown

acclaimed artist, Carole Feuerman.

Author’s disclosure (smile):  I volunteer for the Gardens and
have found it to be another one of my “happy places.”

Did you know that Punta Gorda means “Fat Point” in Spanish because it lies as a “fat point” sticking out into Charlotte Harbor, one of the country’s largest natural harbors?
